Tuscany through my eyes – Week 5
Not many people choose to visit Tuscany in winter, but those who do are rewarded by its beauty and quiet at this time of the year!

Most people love Italy for its climate: the sunny days, the dry weather that allows people to take many day trips and enjoy the outdoors. I love the rain, the mists, the cool breeze, the grey skies. I love the weather that makes you feel comfortable indoors, curled up on your sofa with a good book and a cup of tea. A thunderstorm that leaves behind a cool, misty morning…
August is symbolic of summer. It is the month of Ferragosto, San Lorenzo, Palio dell’Assunta, and many village festivals.
If you love hot sunny days spent on the beach or driving through the fields of sunflowers in the sun drenched countryside, you should consider visiting Tuscany in July.
June is the first month of summer. The fields take on the typical golden color of the hot months, and poppies, lavender and yellow broom tinge the countryside. Bars and restaurants open their outdoor spaces and sagre and festivals animate villages and towns. Besides, June is definitely the month to be in Pisa.
May is my favorite month. The countryside is simply gorgeous and the weather is usually very pleasant: the perfect time of the year to explore rural Tuscany.
April is the first really spring-like month, with warm temperatures, long days and bright colors in the countryside.
We call March “pazzerello”, meaning “somewhat crazy”. Indeed warm, sunny days can alternate with cold wintery days and temperatures change abruptly. But it is the month of the fruit trees in bloom and of course of asparagus!
February can be quite cold, but it also brings us the first taste of spring, with the first warm sunny days and delicate flowers. It is also the month of Valentine’s Day and Carnival.
January is usually one of the coldest months of the year, when sunny days alternate with snowfalls. It sees the end of the Christmas Holidays and the beginning of Carnival with its sweets and parades. It is a good month if you want to travel on a shoe-string.
This blog is written by a born and bred Tuscan who wishes to share her love for this region with as many people as possible. It's about living here, but also about travelling, learning, experiencing, and enjoying life in Tuscany.
It's about feeling at home in Tuscany.
