Tuscany through my eyes – Week 9

I have mixed feelings towards (travel) literature set in Tuscany because, if on the one hand they it is the best promotion for our region (and therefore, indirectly for our rentals too), on the other it sets expectations so high that we sometimes feel it might be difficult to live up to them
I love naked trees. Just like us, they stand there, waiting for the winter to pass. And then, all of a sudden, they cover in buds and bear the promise of a bright spring.
January is a cold month in Tuscany, and one of the first unmistakable signs the winter is here is the morning mists and frost.
Not many people choose to visit Tuscany in winter, but those who do are rewarded by its beauty and quiet at this time of the year!
This week the Tuscany I see is a sadder place. But ready to get back on its feet and to go back to being as beautiful as always.
The beginning of November equals the beginning of the olive harvest in my family. Therefore, if you look at Tuscany through my eyes, this week you cannot but see a lot of olives!
After 18 years in Pisa (at least half of time) and my entire life in Southern Tuscany, nature and art should not leave me in awe anymore. But the electric blue sky of an autumn evening made me realize you cannot really grow used to beauty.
Most people love Italy for its climate: the sunny days, the dry weather that allows people to take many day trips and enjoy the outdoors. I love the rain, the mists, the cool breeze, the grey skies. I love the weather that makes you feel comfortable indoors, curled up on your sofa with a good book and a cup of tea. A thunderstorm that leaves behind a cool, misty morning…
Now that my project about Tuscany over the seasons is over, I have decided to start a new project: Tuscany through my eyes. I will publish photos that I have taken and photos that I have not taken but I wish I had! 52 posts to show you Tuscany the way I see it and feel it.
This blog is written by a born and bred Tuscan who wishes to share her love for this region with as many people as possible. It's about living here, but also about travelling, learning, experiencing, and enjoying life in Tuscany.
It's about feeling at home in Tuscany.
A wonderful opportunity for the independent traveller seeking privacy and a pleasant atmosphere
