Tuscany through my eyes – Week 7
I love naked trees. Just like us, they stand there, waiting for the winter to pass. And then, all of a sudden, they cover in buds and bear the promise of a bright spring.

January is a cold month in Tuscany, and one of the first unmistakable signs the winter is here is the morning mists and frost.
Not many people choose to visit Tuscany in winter, but those who do are rewarded by its beauty and quiet at this time of the year!
It is the smell and taste of my childhood days, when my grandmothers would gather around the “spianatoia”, the pastry board, and make “ciambellini rossi” and “salami arrotolati”, the traditional biscuits from our village covered in alchermes and sugar and a sponge-cake roll with alchermes and confectioner’s sugar.
When a friend told us about Passports with Purpose and asked if we wanted to join forces to help out, we thought it was a great idea and offered a few nights at our Pisa vacation rental apartment, Behind the Tower, as a prize. Have you donated yet? There are some fabulous prizes!
This week the Tuscany I see is a sadder place. But ready to get back on its feet and to go back to being as beautiful as always.
Because a “piazza” with no youth is like a body with no heart.
The beginning of November equals the beginning of the olive harvest in my family. Therefore, if you look at Tuscany through my eyes, this week you cannot but see a lot of olives!
Not much time to cook these days, but when we are in Civitella and Liam is looked after by grandma, mamma can experiment!
After 18 years in Pisa (at least half of time) and my entire life in Southern Tuscany, nature and art should not leave me in awe anymore. But the electric blue sky of an autumn evening made me realize you cannot really grow used to beauty.
